Job Title: Accountant



Job Purpose:


The position facilitates the proper recording of financial transactions and providing information and /or reports derived from the same.

 

 

Nature and Scope:

 

Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the jobholder will be responsible for credit control, settlement of commissions, and premium allocation among other duties.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:
s Reconciliation of disputed balances by debtors.
s Making follow up Calls for premium from debtors.
s Issuing cancellation notices for policies unpaid for over 90 Days.
s Ensuring all credits in the bank are receipted and allocations done.
s Attending to queries regarding disputed accounts.
s Preparation of various reports required by sales team.
s Follow up on debits not raised with underwriters.
s Processing refund premiums.
s Preparation of Debtors report.
s Sending statements to intermediaries.
s Facilitating Credit Control Committee meetings.
s Commission payment to brokers & financial advisors.
s Bank reconciliation for accounts allocated.
s General ledger account analysis.
s Allocation of payments via schedules.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
s Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent;
s Pursuing professional qualifications in CPA or ACCA;
s At least three (3) year experience in a similar or equivalent position;
s Computerized accounting applications such as SUN accounting systems will be an added advantage
Key competencies required for the role:
s Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment;
s Ability to work in a fast paced and highly entrepreneurial environment;
s Excellent written and verbal communication skills including note taking and summarizing skills and the ability to communicate well at all levels in a clear, appropriate and timely manner
s Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy;
s Strong team player with excellent leadership skills;
s Customer focus and orientation.
Performance Standards:
s Strong work ethic;
s Ensure productivity and performance is achieved and exceeded;
s Expenditure in area of influence maintained within approved budget;
s Correct and timely provision of financial information.
s Absence of complaints from suppliers of goods and services
s Absence of penalties from statutory authorities
s Reconciliations and analyses of accounts accurately done and on a monthly basis.
s Systems/procedures within the section working properly
s Absence of issues from internal, external and statutory auditors.
